The Hybrid Publishing Platform is a digital publishing infrastructure developed for the Design Studies program at Burg Giebichenstein. The project explores how design can extend beyond the production of a publication toward the design of an evolving publishing system. This platform connects all twelve issues of Neuwerk Magazine, Design Studies master's theses, and future research publications within one shared environment.
The project understands hybrid publishing as more than the coexistence of print and digital media. By combining digital reading and self curatable print PDFs, and long-term academic archiving, the platform proposes a new ways of accessing, collecting, and publishing knowledge.

„Šnipiškės – A Global Corner“ ist eine zweisprachige Publikation (Litauisch/Englisch), die den Stadtteil Šnipiškės in Vilnius porträtiert: Den Wohnort meiner Großeltern, welchen ich seit meiner Kindheit regelmäßig besuche. Während eines zweiwöchigen Aufenthalts vor Ort sammelte ich visuelle und sensorische Eindrücke und führte Gespräche mit Marktverkäufer*innen, Ladenbesitzer*innen, Anwohner*innen und Familienmitgliedern. Ausgangspunkt ist das Konzept der „Global Corner“: ein Ort, der kein bekanntes Zentrum des globalen Kapitalismus ist, an dem sich aber verschiedenste Prozesse, Krisen, Diversitäten und Wiedersprüche verdichten und greifbar werden. In den Gesprächen spiegeln sich Themen wie soziale Ungleichheit im Postsozialismus, Veränderungen von Konsumräumen und die Auswirkungen des Ukrainekriegs auf das lokale Marktleben wieder. Die Gestaltung greift in Šnipiškės gefundene Elemente aus Architektur, Mustern, Schildern und Verpackungen auf und macht den Ort visuell erfahrbar.

Wie verbreiten sich Inhalte, wer profitiert davon und was wäre die Alternative? In einer Publikation werden die Mechanismen sozialer Medien untersucht und gezeigt, wie populistische Akteure diese gezielt nutzen. Begleitend dazu entstand ein kuratierter RSS-Reader, der Informationen aus erster Hand, chronologisch und ohne algorithmische Steuerung zugänglich macht.

How does content spread, who benefits from it, and what would be the alternative? A publication examines the mechanisms of social media and demonstrates how populist actors exploit them strategically. To complement this, a curated RSS reader was developed that provides access to first-hand information in chronological order, without algorithmic control.

Philip Bellmann Rätselbuch und Websites

Willkommen zum RÄTSELBLOG, ein hybrides Kreuzworträtselbuch zwischen Print und Digital. Auf seinen Seiten befinden sich QR-Codes, die zu 16 Kreuzworträtseln führen. Dazwischen sind Links rund ums Thema Rätsel, QR-Codes und Newsletter versteckt. Mit der Zeit werden weitere Rätsel entstehen und in folgenden Ausgaben veröffentlicht. Du brauchst aber kein neues Buch um diese zu lösen. Mit dem RÄTSELBLOG erhältst du Zugang zu immer wieder wechselnden digitalen Inhalten über das gleiche physische Objekt. Pass gut drauf auf, damit es noch einige Knobelrunden hält.

Walking reminds us of our place in a web of interrelations that points in many directions. It can set our thoughts free, putting us out in the world, in touch with it, each other, and ourselves.

We live in a moment where digital technologies shape many parts of our everyday life, work, and togetherness. The traces we leave, as our thumbs scroll and swipe, become profit, and our attention a commodity.

Putting one foot in front of the other again and again has its own own beat and pace, one we can't simply scroll past.

We don't see walking as an antidote to how we engage with digital technologies — rather, we aim to explore and embrace how the two can be intertwined, thinking in a direction that brings the body back into focus.

In our exhibition at Laurentiusstraße 18, we show the theoretical and creative process we went through in the last months. The exhibition is a five minute walk away from here and open from 16 to 19h.

Für dieses Projekt setze ich mich mit den digitalen Eindrücken auseinander, die mich täglich umgeben. Ich möchte erkunden, wie wir uns in der wachsenden Flut an Informationen zurechtfinden und Wissen wieder mehr Raum und Wertschätzung geben können.
Meine Arbeit ist als eine Art Wurmloch gedacht: eine Dimension, in der nichts linear funktionieren muss, die Sprünge zulässt, Umwege provoziert und das Sich-Verlieren als Teil des Erkenntnisprozesses versteht.

For this project I’m exploring the digital impressions that surround me every day. I want to explore how we can navigate the growing flood of information and give knowledge more space and appreciation again.
My work is conceived as a kind of wormhole: a dimension in which nothing has to function linearly, that allows for leaps, provokes detours, and understands getting lost as part of the process of discovery.
